Malindi Educational Development Association popularly known as MEDA was started in 1997 with a view of promoting forums for the eradication of illiteracy through the promotion of education of children, youth and adults in Malindi district which is approximately 120 km from the Kenyan coastal city of Mombasa. The association has since grown to include a number of activities making it the second largest youth network in Kenya and the prime education promoter in Malindi district with its vision to make the Malindi a community in which all are educated and committed to education and development. It has initiated a number of innovative programs namely:

  • providing Technical training courses for school leavers
  • providing Youth job placements for its members
  • initiating a micro finance program for its members
  • offering accounting and secretarial courses to the Malindi community
  • promoting H.I.V and Aids and drug awareness campaigns
  • developing an early childhood training program for teachers
  • providing secondary holiday tuition
  • setting a bursary scheme for college students

MEWA was formed in 1985 (in Mombasa, Kenya) and one of its key objectives is to promote the educational, economic, social and cultural welfare of all Muslims.  MEWA promotes, encourages, and improves the standard of Education and Welfare of the Ummah. MEWA provides:

MEWA has been involved in helping in education to the needy since 1986. Through out the years it has provided scholarships for student to pursue higher education to India and other countries. The organization provided bursaries to student at the primary education level. In addition to direct funds given to student, the organization has a number of centers that provide study centers and other academic help for primary school children attending standard 7 and 8. The other activities related to education are career advisory day, quiz and essay contest, prize giving day, public lectures and seminar, and helping graduates seek employment.

MEWA operates a 24 hours out patient hospital with four resident medical officers. The hospital has 66 in-patient beds with general wards for male, female, surgical and maternity patients. The hospital has the ability to perform major and minor surgery using modern surgical tools. In addition to a surgery room, the hospital has a laboratory, ultra sound scan, pharmacy, and ambulance services.

This is the MEWA hospital; an invaluable asset in serving the community.
MEWA holds dental workshops thus providing dental care to communities that would otherwise not have access to such resources.
Drug use is a major concern amongst our youth. These awareness campaigns play a major role in bringing the issue to the forefront and granting it the attention it deserves.
MEWA hold medical camps and provides much needed medical attention to people who cannot afford it.
Prizes are awarded to students who have excelled in various academic and non-academic endeavours. The award serves as a motivational tool for students in the community as well as reward hard work and dedication.
